"Considering the pathetic situation of farmers, I urge the government to immediately announce Rs.2000 per quintal as Minimum Support Price for paddy at least this year," he said.
"If that is not done, farmers will give the price for it (for not hiking MSP) to the AIADMK in next year's Assembly elections," he said in a statement.
Jayalalithaa had announced yesterday that the state government would provide an additional Rs 70 for fine quality paddy and Rs 50 for common variety per quintal, effective today.
Karunandihi termed the increase "as very very less, not reasonable in the present situation and it would not give even a small amount of satisfaction to farmers.
