The Federation Of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has appealed to Union Health Minister J P Nadda to immediately address the issues related to availability of life-saving drugs and surgical equipment in government-run hospitals of the national capital.
The doctors' body said if the Health Ministry fails to take up the issues and improve the condition of the hospitals before February 28, it will go on an indefinite strike from March 2 onwards.
"We have written to the Health Minister several times in the past and if the situation remains the same, we are going to sit on an indefinite strike from March 2 onwards," said Valvinder Singh, senior resident doctor at Safdarjung Hospital and president of FORDA.
In a letter to the Minister, the association stated that the lack of security in hospitals has left the doctors open to assaults from patients' attendants.
"The number of operation theatres needs to be doubled in all the hospitals as the resident strength of doctors was doubled five years ago and the patient load is excessive in all hospitals and patients have to wait for a long time to undergo surgical procedures," the letter said.
