When Assam, Bihar and Tripura have asked for a CBI inquiry into the chit fund scam, West Bengal appeared to be reluctant, the BJP said today and questioned if it had something to 'hide'.
State BJP President Rahul Sinha, in a memorandum to Governor M K Narayanan, said that the governments of Assam, Bihar and Tripura, which were affected by the scam, had asked for a CBI inquiry.
"Why our Hon'ble Chief Minister, who, when in the opposition bench, often demanded for CBI, is now not interested in CBI inquiry? Is it because she wishes to hide the truth?" the memorandum asked.
He said that though the state government had formed an inquiry commission headed by retired Justice Shyamal Kumar Sen, preliminary inquiry showed that deposits had been siphoned of to other states and even countries, and therefore it could not be competent enough to inquire.
Holding that the CBI was the only competent authority to investigate the case properly, the memorandum said "CBI has also pledged to investigate through their affidavit in Hon'ble Calcutta High Court."
Stating that though the party also had reservations on CBI, it said that to solve the case and confiscate and auction the property of the Saradha Group to pay back depositors, "CBI is the only solution.
"We once again request you to immediately press this government for CBI enquiry," the memorandum added.
