He said Hollywood considered the audience as 'bums on a chair'. The 'Hollywood syndrome' was the worst thing to have happened to cinema and audiences should learn to ignore it, he said at an interaction on the sidelines of the IFFK here.
Cox recalled how he burnt his fingers while directing the movie 'Damien' based on the life of missionary Father Damien.
The producers advised him to trim down the movie and he accepted. However, it turned out to be a flop and later they wanted to recreate the original, Cox said.
Cox said his long battle with cancer had changed his vision about the world. "The experience had taught me to look at things in a different manner," he said.
He said Indian films contained fantastic musical scores and praised Pandit Ravi Shankar, who passed away on Wednesday.
Five of Paul Cox films, 'Man of Flowers,' 'My First Wife,' 'Innocence,' 'A Woman's tale' and 'Salvation' are being screened at the festival.
