DRI yet to inform Goa govt on ketamine seizure: Parrikar

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said the state government was yet to receive any communication from the DRI about a raid it had conducted in June at a factory, from where it seized 100 kgs of ketamine drugs.

He said whatever information the government has got about the raid was "only through media and from inquiry by local police".

Parrikar was responding to an issue raised by Congress legislator Luizinho Faleiro in the Legislative Assembly.

On June 11, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had raided a factory at Pissurlem Industrial Estate in North Goa and seized 100 kgs of ketamine.

The raid was part of a probe against an international racket manufacturing the banned substance in the country.

Speaking in the House, Parrikar expressed the possibility that the ketamine recovered from the factory might not have been manufactured at the unit, but only stored there.

"We have officially asked the DRI to give us information about the raid conducted in Goa, but we are yet to get any formal communication from the central agency," he said.

"Whatever we know about the raid is through newspaper reports and also through information gathered by local police," he said.

When a racket is spread across multiple states, the state agency can't act in those cases, Parrikar added.

"We don't know whether the (ketamine) drug was manufactured here. As per my information, it was stored there," he said referring to the industrial unit from where the drug was seized.

Former Goa CM and Congress legislator Pratapsinh Rane said the state government should have been serious about the issue as the quantity of drugs seized during the raid was huge.

Responding to Rane's statement, Parrikar urged him to share with the government any information or documents related to the raid.
