During the trial, both Dass and Mahato had said that

they were implicated in the case. The court, however, relied on statement of the prosecution witnesses and the intercepted conversations between Gupta, Dass and Mahato for holding them guilty. "I, therefore, hold that prosecution has been successful in proving beyond reasonable doubt that while working as a public servant...He (Dass) obtained illegal gratification... and Mahato was caught red handed while accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant on behalf of the principal..," it said. The court, in its judgement, also observed that "the new generation is in the hands of the teachers" and "if even the teachers will indulge in corruption, they will be preparing the next generation for corruption only." "God and teachers have been kept at a pedestal where teacher must be worshiped even before God as it is only through the guru or teacher that we find the right path in life. "But if the torch bearers of the next generation forget their path, what will happen to this country which is being eaten systematically by monster of corruption," it said, adding that "a bribe seeker deserves no sympathy."
