Dutch experts offer assistance to improve JK cherry production

Netherlands has offered technical support to the Jammu and Kashmir government to raise productivity and quality of cherry fruit crop in the state.
This was conveyed by the visiting horticulture experts from Netherlands, Jan Lindman and Hans Florain, to M H Malik, Secretary Horticulture, Jammu and Kashmir government, an official spokesman said.
The Dutch experts offered to transfer the latest technology along with the improved germ plasm of cherry fruit crop to the valley where, they said, "the climatic conditions are conducive for growing quality cherries."
The Secretary Horticulture told the delegates that his department would be more than eager to seek technical support from Netherlands for development and expansion of horticulture sector in Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, in a separate meeting with the Fruit Growers Association of Kashmir Valley at the Directorate of Horticulture Kashmir, several issues in connection with the establishment of high density orchards were discussed.
Other allied problems with regard to upgradation of infrastructure in fruit mandis, particularly in Parimpora, Sopore, Chrar-e-Sharief, Kulgam and Ganderbal were also discussed at the meeting.
The Secretary Horticultureassured all possible help and cooperation to the farming community for the development of horticulture sector in the state.
