Dy Election Commissioner to review poll arrangements in Pb

As part of the Election Commission's efforts to ensure smooth, free and fair elections in the state, the Deputy Election Commissioner Alok Shukla would review the poll arrangements in Punjab tomorrow.
Stating this here today, Punjab's Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Supreet Singh Gulati said that Shukla would preside over a meeting of officials tomorrow morning at Ludhiana "to review every aspect of election arrangements being made in Punjab."
Punjab goes to polls in single phase for all the 13 parliamentary seats on April 30.
Gulati further said that 11 cases of Model Code of Conduct violations have been reported to the EC.

Besides this, 76 FIRs have been registered for putting posters or hoardings without permission.
He said that so far 2,592 FIRs have already been registered out of which 2,260 were by Punjab Police and 166 each by Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) and Flying Squads.

Gulati said that so far Punjab Police and Flying Squad teams have seized over Rs seven crore besides referring over Rs 2.2 crore to Income Tax Department.
He said the SSTs have seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 1.29 crore and referred a sum of Rs 5.73 crore to the Income Tax Department.
He informed that 4,668 litres of illicit liquor and 207.5 kg of poppy husk have been recovered from various places in the state during the past one day.

As many as 2,61,000 licensed weapons have been deposited by their owners so far before various police stations, he said.
Gulati said in a release that paramilitary forces have been deployed at various entry points to check any flow of illicit liquor, money and drugs.
He said that at present 35 Companies of paramilitary forces have already been put on election related duties and 147 more Companies were expected to report in the state by April 26.
