"Eat Pray Love" author Elizabeth Gilbert has pulled out from the Jaipur Literature Festival, which opens in the pink city tomorrow, citing a medical condition that prevents her from travel.
The American novelist whose autobiography chronicles her travel across the world, including India, after her divorce and which was adapted into a film, had been lined up for a session, "Selfie: The art of the Memoir" at the JLF.
"I have to cancel Jaipur, much to my sorrow. I am terribly disappointed and deeply sorry... I could not be more saddened about all this," Gilbert said in a statement.
Gilbert was set to talk about her last novel, "The Signature of All Things" at the event.
"We were very much looking forward to hosting Elizabeth Gilbert... We wish her a speedy recovery, and are looking forward to welcoming her to Jaipur in 2016," Festival Producer Sanjoy Roy said in a statement.
Gilbert's new book "Big Magic: Creative Living beyond Fear," on creativity and inspiration is scheduled for publication this September.
"We are very sorry that our author Elizabeth Gilbert will not be coming to India for the Jaipur Literature Festival because of a medical situation that will not allow her to travel," publishers Bloomsbury said.
"We look forward to her travelling to India at another time" publishers said.
