Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi today said stern measures would be taken against the use of money power in elections and a committee would be set up in every district to check the issue of "paid news".
Zutshi, who was here to review the preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, said the Election Commission would maintain a close vigil on the expenditure of candidates.
Expressing satisfaction over preparations for the Lok Sabha elections in the state, he said the final electoral roll would be published on January 31, and its soft and hard copy would be provided to all political parties.
Zutshi said from January 31 a helpline facility would be started in which every electorate could know about his details in the electoral roll.
On the guidelines to the states regarding postings and transfers of officers in view of the upcoming polls, the Deputy Election Commissioner said the chief secretaries are expected to follow the directive and have been asked to submit a compliance report by February 15.
