"Right type of education and training is required to keep pace with the rapid developments taking place across the globe. If we fail to match with the strides of progress we will lag behind," Gogoi said at the open session of All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organisations (AIFUCTO) here.
He said that introduction of new subjects can open vistas of employment opportunities.
"Multidisciplinary skill development has been given added thrust by our government...New ideas and concepts must emerge," Gogoi said.
He called for improvement in the higher education scene in the state.
"Assam, or for that matter, the country as a whole has to scale up the notch on the higher education front. The dropout rate has to be reduced considerably," he said.
