Eight more people have been arrested in connection with a recent clash between two communities in Jharkhand's Palamu district, a police officer said on Monday.
Prohibitory order clamped under Sec 144 CrPc on Chando village and its vicinity, in the aftermath of the violence, continues to remain in force, he said.
One person was killed and five people, including three policemen, injured on Friday after members of two communities clashed at the village in Chainpur police station area of the district over a route being taken for a religion procession on the occasion of Vijayadashami.
The warring groups ransacked half-a-dozen vehicles and set shops on fire in the area.
All eight of them arrested on Sunday in connection with the violence have been sent to jail, officer-in-charge of Chainpur police station, Sunil Kumar, said.
"Six people were apprehended and forwarded to 14-day judicial custody, a day after the clashes. Eight more were held on Sunday, taking the number of those arrested in the case to 14," he said.
Talking to PTI, Palamu Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Kumar Agrahari said the situation was under control and measures have been taken to thwart any attempt to foment trouble in the area.
"Adequate police force has been deployed in and around Chando village to ensure maintenance of law and order. The prohibitory order will continue to remain in force till further orders," he added.
