Acting on a complaint, vigilance sleuths laid a trap yesterday and caught Tusharkanta Swain, SDO, electrical engineer Chhendipada while he was accepting the money from one Suryakanta Pradhan, vigilance sources said.
They said that the electric fittings of the house of the complainant were checked by the concerned staff and a notice for payment of Rs 36,000 was issued towards electric charges.
When the complainant requested the SDO to reduce the electric charges, the accused demanded Rs 5000 as bribe with an assurance to reduce the amount to Rs 1600. Finding no other option, the complainant reported the matter to the vigilance, they said.
