Elephant injured after being hit by train

An elephant was injured today after being hit by a speeding train in Motichur range of Rajaji National Park.
The accident occurred near Vaidic Nagar in Dehradun district when the 35-year-old tusker came on to the tracks near a sharp curve and was hit by Kathgodam Express, Deputy Director, Rajaji National Park, Harshendra Kumar Singh, said.
The incident left one of the forelegs of the pachyderm injured. However, it escaped into the adjoining forests soon after the mishap.
The forest guards are on its trail trying to tranquilise the elephant so that it could be treated, he said.
