The thriving entertainment industry here has been comatose for the past few days due to the devastation caused Cyclone Hudhud in this port city.
Famous attractions like Kalisagiri, Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) Park, Shivaji Park, the submarine museum and movie theatres downed shutters, with no firm indications about when they would reopen.
Kailasagiri, a top tourist destination here, was shut down after its ropeway got damaged completely.
Trees and plants in Kailsagiri bore the brunt of winds and heavy rains, knocking down a large number of trees and replanting them appears to be a gigantic task.
"We need at least Rs 300 crore investment to restore Kailasigiri, VUDA Park, submarine museum and other parks maintained by the VUDA", a senior VUDA official told PTI.
The city which hosts around 40 movie screens were closed due to power failure, though some movie theatres remained partially open using diesel generated power.
The famous Ramakrishna beach wore a deserted look.
"We used to come here regularly in the evening but since the last four or five days, there has been no power supply. This has forced us to stay at home looking for water and power. We miss the pleasant weather of the beach", a vistor T S Murthy told PTI.
Power supply to the city is expected to partially restored within a day or two, sources.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that power situation is still grim and all departments are making all out efforts to bring back normalcy in Visakhapatnam.
