Envoy to South Korean president calls on PM Modi

Special envoy to the South Korean president today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.
Dongchea Chung, special envoy to President Moon Jae-In met Modi, days after a new government was sworn in in South Korea.
The prime minister appreciated President Moon's gesture of sending his special envoyand said he looks forward to meeting the new South Korean leader.
A statement from the Prime Minister's Office said Modi recalled his visit to the Republic of Korea in May 2015, during which the bilateral relationship was upgraded to a special strategic partnership.
The prime minister welcomed the deepening of bilateral partnership not only in trade and economic spheres, but also in new areas such as defence cooperation.
Chung also met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. "His discussions covered a broad range of bilateral relations. There is a very strong economic partnership between Republic of Korea and India and convergence of views on terrorism, right to navigation," MEA spokesperson Gopal Baglay said here.
He said both the sides will strive to hold the meeting of the joint commission within this year.
