A Delhi court has dismissed the bail application of former Delhi Mayor's nephew, arrested for allegedly raping a Russian woman and molesting a US national.
Rajeev Panwar, nephew of former mayor Jayshree Panwar, was sent to Tihar jail till July 18 after Metropolitan Magistrate Ankit Singla dismissed his bail application and remanded him back to 14 days in judicial custody.
The court denied bail to the accused saying the allegation against him is serious in nature. Also the investigation into the matter is pending and in an initial stage.
Rajeev, whose father is a government employee, was on June 24 remanded in judicial custody till today after his arrest for the alleged offence committed in his flat rented to the foreigners.
A case of rape and house trespass was registered at the Hauz Khas police station on the basis of a complaint by the US national's husband.
The victims live in a rented house owned by Rajeev, who also runs a travel business. They have been living on the premises for the past six to seven months.
According to police, the US national and her husband, along with the Russian national, had returned home after attending a party late on June 23.
"They had kept the main door of the house unlocked as there was a power cut when they returned," the official said.
The US national and her husband were asleep in one room while her roommate slept in another room. "Suddenly, around 4:30 AM, Rajeev walked into the house and sexually assaulted the US national," the police had said.
She claimed that she did not realise it for a while and suddenly woke up to find Rajeev next to her. She immediately raised an alarm following which her husband woke up and chased Rajeev. It is claimed that Rajeev also sexually assaulted the Russian national, who was asleep in the next room.
