"Rizwan, Rohit, Harron, Saleem and Gulzar were arrested in a raid by the police, which rescued a victim Rajender Gupta who was captured by the racket through honey trap," said Veenu Bansal, DCP of North East district police.
Khajuri Khas police station received a complaint from the relatives of Gupta, a shopkeeper, that he was kidnapped and a ransom of Rs one lakh was being demanded, on the night of July 12, he said.
An FIR was registered in connection with kidnapping and ransom demand and police teams were formed to catch the extortionists, the officer said.
The accused, Saleem, who is master mind of the gang claimed to be a chief reporter while Rohit claimed to be a reporter of a news channel. They would raid the place where their target was fixed with sex workers.
They would threaten to defame the victim caught on video camera in objectionable situation with sex workers.
