An alleged extortionist, carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head, has been arrested from north west Delhi's Shalimar Bagh after he evaded the police's net for months, during which he posed a "constant threat" to the life and liberty of many.
The accused, Harsimran, allegedly hatched plots from inside the jail when he was arrested in the past. He had even picked up a fight with an Indian Mujahideen member to establish his hegemony inside the jail, police said.
Police claimed to have worked out four cases of extortion and Arms Act with his arrest.
He is a dreaded criminal and is involved in a total 15 cases including two murders at Burari and Mandir Marg areas, a senior police officer said.
"There was continuous threat to life and liberty of many people from him. As per threat assessment round the clock security was given to the complainants against him," police said.
There were complaints he had demanded an extortion amount of Rs 5 lakh from two people. While in jail he had also planned to fire at the complainants but it was foiled as special cell intercepted his voice.
"Despite this, he succeeded in executing his plan through his gang members, who fired at the parked car of one of the complainant to terrorise him," the officer said.
