Abdulrahman, involved in selling foreign goods, was arrested from Keezhakarai bus stand locality and high-quality fake currency in the denomination of Rs 500 seized from him, Q Branch Police Inspector Kennedy said.
This is the second fake currency racket unearthed in the coastal district. On August 2 last, police have arrested six persons, part of a 16-member gang allegedly involved in smuggling fake Indian currency in the denomination of Rs 1,000 from Sri Lanka and circulating in the district.
A search was on to nab the other members of the gang, Police added.
Incidentally, Abdulrahman had been convicted in a drug smuggling case along with a Sri Lankan woman refugee in 2006 and served prison term of six years, police said.
