Farmers today protested against a drive by officials on measurement and land distribution and blocked the Bulandshahr-Palwal road at Jhajjar, prompting police to baton charge to disperse them.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Atul Kumar said the order of state government to implement the order at Jhajhar has been pending since 2000.
Senior Samajwadi Party leader Sunil Singh said ponds and vast areas of gram sabha land have been encroached by the land mafia.
"Now land mafia are afraid that land will be disposed of. Following which they instigated some farmers to stop this drive" he said.
