When Abul Hussain was forcibly trying to bury her daughter Rukshena in a pit in the backyard of his residence, a neighbour saw it and raised an alarm following which locals rescued the girl yesterday, SP (Control), Uttam Bhaumick said.
The incident took place when her mother was not at home.
The girl was admitted to a hospital where her condition is stated to be serious.
Abul has been arrested, he said.
