Faulty policies pushing Bembla project fishermen to starvation

Independent MLA from Achalpur Bacchu Kadu today said faulty policies and improper rehabilitation had pushed several fishermen families affected by the Bembla river irrigation project to starvation.
The multi-crore Bembla river irrigation project was commissioned few years ago with the funds allotted under the Prime Minister's special package during the UPA government.
"The families of fishermen in the submerged and catchment area of the project were hard hit. Their rehabilitation was not properly done by the government and over 10,000 families are now pushed on the verge of starvation as the contracts for fishing have been given to private contractors from outside.

"We request the local peoples representatives to take up their issues with the state government and find an amicable solution to their problems immediately failing which a mass agitation will be launched for ensuring justice to the fishermen in the area," Kadu told reporters at the government rest house this evening.
Kadu has welcomed the government's decision of giving Rs 10,000 as initial crop loan assistance to each farmer across the state and said the restrictions put on the parameters should be reviewed so that all the eligible and needy farmers are brought under the ambit of the benefit.
He also supported Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray's demand to name MS Swaminathan as the presidential candidate.

On Arun Jaitley's statement regarding central assistance for State's loan waiver decision, Kadu said it is totally political as BJP wants to exclude opposition party ruled States from getting the benefit.
Kadu warned that he will launch an agitation in November from New Delhi if the state government fails to fulfill its assurance of total loan waiver.
