One person has been arrested in connection with violence that broke out in Saharanpur following a visit by BSP chief Mayawati to the district last month, the police said today.
One person named Bhim alias Neeraj who was found involved in the violence that broke out in Saharanpur on May 23 last and on whom a cash reward of Rs. 5,000 was announced, was arrested today, the police said.
On May 23, fresh violence had broken out in Saharanpur shortly after Mayawati wrapped up her visit to the tension ridden Shabbirpur village when a sword-wielding mob attacked a Bolero carrying people back who had come after attending the BSP chief's event.
Police sources said the attackers allegedly fired their guns and wielded batons, killing one Ashish (24) on the spot and injuring four others.
Saharanpur had been in the grip of caste violence since April.
