An employee of a private company here, engaged in refilling cash in ATM machines, has been arrested for allegedly stealing money from the cash van, police said today.
Hargyan (21), who had joined the company around one and a half years ago, was assigned the job to load cash in ATM machines of various banks on the Nangloi route, they said.
"On surprise audits on September 16 and 17, it was found that there was a cash shortage of Rs 73,85,100. When custodian Hargyan was questioned about it, he escaped from the company office," Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh said.
An FIR was lodged on September 29, following which police tracked down the accused on Wednesday and recovered Rs 12,47,000 from him, he said.
