The first unit of the Tuticorin Thermal Power Station has suspended production after it suffered a breakdown, a power station official said today.
Chief Engineer of the Thermal plant M.Thangaraj told PTI that the unit suffered a breakdown following a failure in a boiler tube last night.
This happened at a time when officials were trying to fix a snag in the fifth unit, which suspended production on Saturday last. The unit's boiler tube had developed a puncture, he said, adding, the problem was rectified at 5.19 am today, he said.
Technicians were attending to the problem in the first unit, he said and expressed hope that power production would resume tomorrow.
He said there were five units and each unit would generate 210 mw and totally the station would generate 1050 mw, adding, the snag had resulted in production shortfall of 210 mw.
