boats today protested against mechanised boat fishermn operating within three nautical miles and decided to hold an agitation on January 27 against it.
They held a meeting and around 1,000 fishermen from Rameswaram, Dhanuskodi and Natarajapuram participated.
According to fishing regulation Act, 1983 the country boat fishermen should fish with in three nautical miles from the shore and mechanized boat fishermen should fish after three nautimiles from the shore.
But some fishermen of mechanized boats were fishing with in three nautimiles with banned fishing nets.
Due to that, their livelihood was affected and they said.
