The accused have been identified as ASI Sharwan Kumar, Head Constable Basant Kumar, Constables Raj Pal, Rakesh and Rajesh of Model Town police station here.
They have been placed under suspension by SP Abhishek Garg, while DSP (Headquarters) Krishan Lal has been deputed to conduct investigations into the matter.
A police spokesman said that there were complaints against these five cops who had allegedly been extorting money from vehicle operators.
He further said that the district police chief had these complaints enquired by a senior police official and the probe prima facie found them guilty.
