Five states, Puducherry to ink MoU with GeM tomorrow

Five states and a union territory including Gujarat and Telangana would ink an MoU tomorrow with Government e-Market (GeM) for smart procurement of goods and services.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) would also ensure timely payment by state departments to the vendors registered on the GeM portal, a government official said.
It has been made mandatory on GeM to make payment to the vendors within 10 days of receipt of goods and services.
States are already using the GeM portal for procurement purposes.
GeM was launched by the commerce ministry to bring greater transparency and efficiency in public procurement, which runs into thousands of crore.

Government e-market place SPV and DGS&D under the commerce ministry in association with National eGovernance Division is organising a national consultative workshop for the government buyers and sellers on GeM.

The two-day event will begin from tomorrow. These MoUs will be signed there.
The other states that will ink the agreement are Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and union territory - Puducherry.
Meanwhile, GeM CEO S Radha Chauhan told PTI: "With GeM, we have been able to reduce payment time to 10 days to vendors and also expedited government procurement from 3-4 months to few days. We are holding two days workshop to involve more people on GeM including MSMEs".
