Five youths drown in Tapi river in Gujarat

Five youths drowned in Tapi river after they went to take bath in the river near Vaghecha village here, fire brigade official said today.
The youths identified as Pratik Manji, Utpal Sakhiya, Hardik Mistry, Bhargav Kantharia and Brijesh Sabhiya, all in the age group of 21-22 years and belonging to Kamrej area from Surat, officials of Bardoli fire brigade said.
"All of them were close friends and used to work for private firms in Surat. After arriving at Vaghecha for picnic last afternoon, they went to take a bath in Tapi river passing from the village," said fire officer of Bardoli T B Gadhvi.

"Though villagers warned them to stay away from the deep waters, they ignored their warning," he said.
Later during the night, when these youth did not return to their homes, their relatives came to Vaghecha in search of them.
"Since it was almost midnight when we received the call, we have started our operation in the wee hours today and fished out bodies of these five youths,"Gadhvi said.
"They might have misjudged the depth of the river and died after drowning during late evening, when there was no one around to help them," he added.
Bardoli police have registered a case of accidental death and investigations are underway.
