Flash flood, triggered by heavy rains, has washed away three-tier border fencing in a 200-metre stretch along the Indo-Pakistan border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, and caused damage to a few border out-posts.
Due to flash floods, 200 metres of border fencing in the Ramgarh riverine belt of Samba district have been washed away, a BSF official said here today.
A few border out-posts (BoPs) have also suffered minor damages due to the flash floods, the official said.
Due to incessant rains since yesterday, water level in Basantar river increased rapidly at Kamore border belt in Samba district, resulting in sudden overflow of water.
The overflow damaged the recently re-constructed anti-flood embankment at Kamore, an Army officer said, adding that the situation could become worse as rain continued in the upper reaches.
Nearly 190 kms of international border in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts from Moluchak (Akhnoor LoC) in Jammu district to Pathankote in Jammu frontier is fenced and lit to stop cross-border infiltration and smuggling of narcotics and weapons into the state.
The BSF will undertake repair and re-construction of border fencing soon after the threat of flash floods comes down, the BSF official said, adding that troops guarding the borderline are keeping a close watch on the three-tier border fencing areas in view of the threat of infiltration from across the border.
