Former Cairn India chief P Elango joins HOEC as MD

Says his long term vision is to build a world class, independent oil and gas company strongly rooted in India

Former Cairn India chief executive P Elango has joined smaller oil exploration firm HOEC as Managing Director.

Hindustan Oil Exploration Company Ltd (HOEC) in a regulatory filing said the Board of Directors of the company at its meeting today has appointed "Elango as additional director and also designated him as the Managing Director."

Elango quit Cairn in May last year. He was named CEO of the company in August 2012 when Cairn India's first chief executive officer Rahul Dhir resigned.

HOEC said R Jeevanandam has been appointed Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the company.

The appointments, it said, are "subject to approval of the shareholders and other applicable regulatory approvals."

Speaking to PTI, Elango said, "These are challenging times for both the oil and gas industry and the company. My long term vision is to build a world class, independent oil and gas company strongly rooted in India, providing a robust platform to talented professionals to add value and make a difference.
