Former MP Anil Shukla Warsi and his wife Pratibha Shukla, an ex-MLA, resigned from BSP after levelling allegations of 'corruption' against party workers, even as its members claimed that they were sacked for "anti-party activities".
"We tried to meet Mayawati yesterday at the Parliament to complain against local party leaders' regular demand for money and their behaviour towards us but after she did not meet us, we sent our resignations," Shukla told PTI.
Claiming that he and his wife practised "clean politics", Shukla alleged that local leaders demanded money often for party activities and they were unable to meet the demand.
Besides, the leaders used to "misbehave" with them which further detached them from the party, he said.
However, Kanpur Zonal Coordinator of Bahujan Samaj Party, Ashok Siddharth refuted their allegations saying that Shukla couple was expelled from the party as they were not attending party meetings and were involved in "anti-party activities".
Shukla had joined BSP in 2005 after leaving SP and won by-election for Bilhaur Lok Sabha constituency same year. He contested for Lok Sabha from Akbarpur seat on BSP's ticket in the general election 2014 but lost.
While his wife Pratibha won from Chobepur assembly seat in 2007 on BSP's ticket but lost in 2012 when she contested for Akbarpur-Raniya seat.
Meanwhile, stating that he has not decided which political party he will be joining, Shukla said he will take decision after meeting his supporters.
According to sources, Pratibha was a ticket aspirant for UP assembly polls slated for 2017 but her name was reportedly dropped and since then the couple distanced themselves from the party.
