Narhat Station House Officer (SHO) Yogendra Jha said the family had celebrated Makar Sankranti yesterday and eaten traditional food of dahi-chura (curd and flattened rice) and 'khichidi'.
"Four of the family died at home, while two persons have been hospitalised in precarious condition at Nawada Sadar Hospital. Their condition is said to be deteriorating," Jha said.
The SHO said the deceased have been identified as Krishna Yadav (58), his wife Dhano Devi (53) and their grandchildren Sumit kumar (3)and Priya (2) of Kasiadih village.
"The deaths could be because of contaminated food consumption, but foul play could not be ruled out. We are investigating the case to find out the exact reason behind the incident," Jha added.
Meanwhile, samples of food eaten by the family has been sent for forensic tests, while the dead bodies have been sent for postmortem.
