Four held for smuggling diamonds

Four persons have been arrested in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh for allegedly trying to smuggle out diamonds to Madhya Pradesh, police said today.
Police seized 25 pieces of diamonds, cash worth Rs 70,420 and an SUV from the accused last evening.
Following a tip off that the accused were travelling to Raipur in an SUV after procuring diamonds from the diamond belt of Deobhog in Gariaband bordering Odisha state, a joint team of crime branch and Panduka police intercepted them at forest department's check post on the way.
"The smugglers were apprehended and their SUV was seized last evening from Panduka police station limits of the district," Gariaband Additional Superintendent of Police, Neha Pandey told PTI.

While Sandeep Singh (32) and Sarafaraz Khan (21) are natives of Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh, Baldev Singh (60) and KP Ajit (43) belong to Durg district of Chhattisgarh, she said.
A case has been registered in this regard, the officer added.
