Four persons were arrested today in connection with last month's case of a broad daylight robbery of Rs 50 lakh cash and a mobile phone at a shop at Masjid Bunder area in south Mumbai, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, the accused, identified as Masud Pasha Shaikh (32), Shanti Prasad Yadav (32), Mustakeen Khan (28) and Ashok Nayak (32) were nabbed from different locations of the city yesterday and handed over to Pydhonie police station, which placed them under arrest today, said Nishikant Patil, inspector with Mumbai Crime Branch.
Four robbers wielding sickles, knives and other weapons barged into a shop at Yogeshwar building at Masjid Bunder area on March 26 and threatened the owner Shrikant Raut before gagging him with a cloth, police said.
The four filled cash of Rs 50 lakh and a mobile phone worth Rs 12,000 in their bags before escaping from the spot, police said.
Following a tip-off police held Yadav, who works in a leather bag manufacturing unit in the same area. During the interrogation, Yadav claimed that he knew that Raut kept huge amount of cash in his shop and hatched a conspiracy with six others to rob him.
Yadav, Masud and Ashok played different roles in the crime while Mustakeen and three other wanted accused barged into the shop to rob the victim, police said adding that further probe was on.
