"Production of 80 per cent of the total demand of 3.45 crore free saris and dhotis has been completed", she told reporters.
It may be recalled that the state government had sanctioned Rs 486 crore for their production.
The Minister also inspected the weaving of dhotis and saris at a co-operative society and modernisation work in the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Cloth Processing Mill, both in the city.
She also held discussions here with officials of Handloom department in Erode, Namakkal, Tirupur and Coimbatore districts.
