Haryana government today said the cases of misappropriation of funds in social security pensions would be looked into and strict action will be taken against erring officials.
"Orders have been issued to look into the cases of misappropriation of funds in social security pensions and the issue is being investigated under the directions of the Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal," Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Kavita Jain said in a release here.
She said the present government had received many complaints that a "large number of ineligible people were getting such pensions whereas the eligible ones had been left out".
The department has been asked to submit its report at the earliest possible and strict action would be taken against the erring officials and officers, she added.
Jain said the BJP government would fulfil all the promises made to the people adding that the party had not denied the increase but with annual increase of Rs 200 every year by 2019, the monthly pension would be Rs 2,000.
The present government has a formula to increase the old age allowance, as well as handicap and widow pensions to Rs 2,000 from earlier Rs 1,000 per month, she said.
The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal last week had already decided to increase pension from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 from January, 2015.
