Fund raising by listed companies through private placement of debt securities or bonds plunged by 23.6 per cent to Rs 2.76 lakh crore in 2013-14, compared to the previous financial year.
The companies had garnered a total of Rs 3.61 lakh crore from debt on a private placement basis in fiscal 2012-13, according to latest data with market regulator Sebi.
Besides, the number of issues in 2013-14 dropped to 1,924 from 2,489 in the previous financial year.
In debt private placements, firms issue debt securities or bonds to institutional investors to raise capital.
According to market experts the fall in fund mobilisation through debt securities could be attributed to a good performance of the equities in the stock market and stability of the rupee compared to a dollar, in the last fiscal.
Of the total funds raised in 2013-14, Rs 1.40 lakh crore were raised by companies listed only on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Rs 78,805 crore were mobilised through issues only on BSE and Rs 56,536 crore were from companies listed on both NSE and BSE.
During 2013-14, the highest amount of funds (Rs 41,811.99 crore) were mobilised by the companies in April, 2013, followed by Rs 35,213.92 crore in June.
An amount of only Rs 2,088.71 crore were garnered through the private placement route in August, the lowest in the entire financial year 2013-14.
