A section of people have staged road blockade and stopped a procession of Ganesha idol immersion in Pattamundai town of Kendrapara district, triggering tension in the area, police said today.
Trouble started as a group stopped the procession from going ahead in a locality in Ward no-11 of the town yesterday.
They said the instruments, music and dance during procession were creating 'disturbance' in the area and insisted that the procession be diverted, police said.
Officers of the district administration rushed to the spot and intervened. Later, police personnel were engaged to conduct the immersion.
Situation has been brought under control, police said.
Discussion was held with both groups to maintain peace and prevent any flare up, police said.
