However, one gang member Dhanush had escaped.
Police said Dhanush had arranged for dance and song programme in connection with a local temple festival at Koothiyar Koondu.
Four persons had burst crackers during the festival. One of the crackers hit one Kannan, a local youth, leading to a clash between two groups.
Dhanush and his gang members allegedly attacked Kannan with a sickle and he was rushed to a hospital.
When the villagers surrounded Dhanush and others, they hurled country bombs which caused thick smoke. Using the cover of smoke they escaped. However their vehicle collided with a car at Sambakulam and all the five were injured.
Police rescued four of them and admitted them to hospital.
Police are on the lokkout for Dhanush.
