A gang allegedly involved in cheating a distributor of Patanjali products to the tune of Rs 23 lakhs by floating a fake trading company has been busted with the arrest of seven persons from west Delhi, police said today.
The complainant Pradeep Batra approached the police last month alleging that his distribution shop 'SDS Enterprises' in Janakpuri was cheated by one Vijay Agarwal by taking orders of Patanjali products for his firm 'Krishna Trading Company'. He said that his company was cheated to the tune of Rs 23 lakhs by the accused.
One of the gang members Ankit Jain was arrested recently. On the basis of the information provided by him, other gang members-Surender, Sushil, Ravi, Krishanpal, Sanjay Kumar and Bharat Bhushan were arrested later, Vijay Kumar, DCP(west) said.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that Ravi impersonated as Vijay Agarwal while Sushil disguised himself as former's elder brother Ajay Agarwal. They started a fake firm after opening bank accounts and obtained PAN card and TIN number for it.
They used mobile numbers obtained through fake IDs. Surender allegedly financed the whole activity which was run from a shop rented by them in Majlis Park area of Adarsh Nagar, said the officer.
After several transactions with different distributors including the complainant, the accused issued them cheques when the banks were to be closed for 4-5 days due to festive season. The gang finally disappeared after vacating their shop on the night of October 9-10.
Surender Jain and Sushil were arrested in a similar case of cheating in Punjabi Bagh area in 2010, police added.
