Gang of auto lifters busted, 20 luxury cars seized

The crime branch of police busted a gang of auto lifters here and recovered 20 luxury cars from their possession.
The gang was stealing cars from NCR and the western UP district, police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Singh today told reporters that acting upon a tip-off, five burglars were arrested by the crime branch team while two gang members fled from the spot.
Those held have been identified as Gulfam, Mehraj, Naeem and Asad alias Ashu.
During interrogation, all of them confessed to have stolen 20 cars from highways and downtown areas.
Upon their tips, all the vehicles have been seized which were stationed stealthily at several parking stations.

Narrating their modus operandi, the SSP said that the accused used to sell the vehicles after scratching and stamping their chassis, engine and officially changed registration numbers with help of touts of transport authorities.
The absconding gang members will be nabbed soon, the officer added.
