A major gas leakage at an Oil India Ltd (OIL) well which started 15 days ago in Dandewala region of Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan, was yet not stopped, and the well might be "kill" (shut), OIL's Project Head N R Deka said yesterday.
Though team was effortlessly working to stop the leakage, but it was not completely controlled in last fortnight, Deka said.
"If its emission does not stop fully, it might be "kill" (shut) so that there would be no chance for its revival", he said, adding its closure would not affect any supply.
About 9000 cubic metre gas was being produced from other sources in Jaisalmer area, and it was being supplied to Ramgarh Thermal Power Plant, he said.
There are two options, if gas in this troubled area was less, then an open fire be allowed, and in second option, a cemented chemical be applied to seal this opening of gas leak, he said.
Jaisalmer district administration was also on toes to monitor the emission which was said to be out of danger to people living in far flung areas, Collector Vishwamohan Sharma said.
Highly inflammable gas oozing out from the well through pipes was controlled partially as its speed is lowered down with the help of new mechanism and pipes late last week, but it was not completely stopped so far.
