GE will modernise two steam turbines at the captive power plant targeting turbine output increase of up to 4 MW each-improving the efficiency of the plant and extending the life of the units by around 20 years, the company said in a statement.
"Reducing the cost of power generation is relevant for an aluminium company like Hindalco. The upgrades will not only improve the efficiency of the turbines but will also lower the cost of production and improve reliability and availability at the plant," GE Power India Managing Director Ashok Ganesan said.
Hindalco's Chief Operating Officer SN Jajoo said, "our collaboration with GE on this project will demonstrate the feasibility of upgrading our existing steam turbines, which will allow us to increase the output, efficiency and performance of our existing fleet of plants."
GE will use its Powering Efficiency Center of Excellence for this upgradation.
"The COE helps to apply a total plant hardware and software solution approach to boost the efficiency of the world's new and existing coal-fired power plants and to significantly reduce their emissions," Ganesan said.
