General Motors India has slashed price of its mid-sized sedan Cruze by up to Rs 86,000, nearly a month after introducing an updated version of the model in the country.
The carmaker has reduced the price of the top-end version of the car by Rs 86,000 and the entry-level trim by Rs 73,000 in order to push sales of the model.
The company launched the face-lifted Cruze on January 30 priced between Rs 14.68 lakh and Rs 17.81 lakh. Now, the company has priced the model between Rs 13.95 lakh and Rs 16.95 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
"We have strategically price positioned the new Chevrolet Cruze 2016 to simplify our go-to-market strategy in this key segment," a company spokesperson told PTI.
The new Cruze has proved its mettle in the market with its new 7-Inch MyLink infotainment system along with striking new design cues and added features, the spokesperson said.
"We are focused on delivering products that buyers in India expect and deserve and with this we hope to serve an even wider set of customers, while providing performance, technology and great design underpinned by strong quality and great value," the spokesperson said.
The price reduction comes at a time when the company is struggling to grow its sales even as other automobile manufacturers have been increasing their sales.
In the April-January period, General Motors India, which sells various models including Beat, Sail and Tavera in the country, sold 14,477 units, 44.43 per cent down from 26,055 units in the same period of the previous fiscal.
The updated Chevrolet Cruze is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel engine and comes with both a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission, the company said in a statement.
After struggling for nearly two decades in India, General Motors last year announced a turnaround plan entailing fresh investment of USD 1 billion (Rs 6,400 crore) and ceasing production at its Gujarat plant to consolidate manufacturing operations in Maharashtra.
