The Ghaziabad district administration has stepped up actions against illegal acid manufacturing units and traders selling them in view of rising acid attacks on women in the area, officials said today.

Yesterday, the authorities raided an acid manufacturing unit in Loni area and seized a huge amount of chemical and raw materials used in making acid, the officials said.

SDM Amit Pal Sharma said he and Circle Officer Durgesh Kumar headed a team of police personnel during the raid in Sewa Dham Colony. The factory has been sealed.

He said their action came following an acid attack on a 25-year-old woman bank employee in Mohan Nagar in Sahibabad area. Five other people had also sustained injuries in the attack.

The authorities have launched a special drive against illegal acid manufacturing units in the area.

Sharma said raids are also being conducted against illegal sand miners.
