A girl in her 20s allegedly tried to commit suicide today by jumping on Metro tracks at the Bata Chowk station on the Badarpur-Escorts Mujesar corridor.
The left hand of the girl, which was severely injured in the incident, had to be amputated.
The incident, sources said, occurred at around 11.45 AM when the girl was waiting at the Bata Chowk station.
Just as a train began to move from Bata Chowk towards ITO, the girl jumped before it. Before people on the platform and CISF guards could react, the girl was dragged some distance by the train.
After the CISF personnel posted at the station managed to pull the girl out from the track she was rushed to the Metro Hospital in Faridabad.
She was admitted to Critical Care Unit with hospital sources saying that her left hand had to be amputated in order to save her life. Her condition continues to be serious, they added.
They said that the girl momentarily regained consciousness and said her name was Poonam and that she was a resident of Sector-3, Ballabgarh, in Faridabad.
No family members of the girl had reached the hospital till late in the night.
The Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar Metro corridor was flagged off on September 6 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
