The girl, identified as Shallu, jumped from a bridge into Basantar river in Samba, a senior police officer said.
As people saw her jumping, they raised an alarm, he said, adding that police flying squad reached the spot and later recovered the girl's body.
Police has registered a case and started investigation in the matter, he said, adding that the reason behind such a step is not yet known.
