A 19-year-old girl today died of cardiac arrest in Shopian district even as the police said her death is unrelated to the ongoing unrest in the Valley, while a school building caught fire under mysterious circumstances in nearby Anantnag district.
"As per hospital authorities, the girl has died in all likelihood because of cardiac arrest. The death of the girl is no way related to the incident that happened at Vehil," a police spokesman said noting that Khushboo, daughter of Mohammad Hussain, had collapsed.
"The posts (on social media)are as such bereft of facts and are as such clarified," he added.
A police spokesman later clarified that Shopian district administration has confirmed that Gaddapora, the village of the deceasedgirl, is about 7 km from the Vehil, where the miscreants set on fire the school building and indulged in stone-pelting.
With the police holding that Khushboo's death was not related to the security forces' action against the stone- pelting protestors, the toll in the ongoing unrest since Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter with security forces on July 8, remains at 81.
Police said the girl was taken to Shopian district hospital where doctors declared her "brought dead".
The preliminary cause of death was stated to be cardiac arrest, police said.
Meanwhile, Hanafia High School building in Lal Chowk area of Anantnag was damaged in a fire incident, police said.
They said fire tenders had been rushed to the spot, adding the cause of fire was not known yet.
No casualty has been reported in the incident so far, police said.
